The New Comedians Guidebook

By Gareth P. Morris

Want to try stand-up comedy but don't know where to start? Stop wasting months figuring it out.

Gareth P Morris is an award-winning stand-up comedian and promoter. In his first four years of comedy he's gone viral, headlined comedy nights, performed his show at the Edinburgh, Glasgow and Swansea Fringes, and organised over a hundred stand up comedy nights.

With the initial experience of starting comedy fresh in his head, he's created a one stop guide to getting there faster than he has. Covering everything from writing comedy, to memorising your set, to even organising your own show, he categorises the dos, don'ts, and best practice to get you started. This is the one stop shop for starting in comedy.

"With lots of practical advice, Gareth has managed to write a great guide if you are starting your comedy journey."

- Kyle Davies - BBC Credited Comedy Writer

"This is priceless. This should be a must buy if you're thinking of doing comedy, or ever wondered what it takes to give it a go."

- Mike Reed - British Comedian of the year finalist.

"Written by someone who knows what they’re talking about. Lovely work."

- Ian Murphy - British Comedian of the year Semi Finalist / Viral comedy content creator.

"Everyone will tell you that comedy can only be learnt 'on the job'. This is largely true but what makes this process easier is the community of comedians who will pick you up off the floor, guide, advise and champion you. In this book, Gareth hands you a sizeable chunk of that community advice to enter the art better informed and savvy.

- Karen Sherrard - Comedy Circuit Headliner and Comedy Teacher.

Such a good purchase! I've read two other books on stand-up (both very decent, including Adam Bloom's highly rated offering). However, Gareth has packed this with so much practical information it's almost overwhelming - in a good way. Stuff you can use both while performing (mic technique and dealing with hecklers) and preparing (writing, analysing, etc). For me, I was happy to see a lot of actionable advice on the things you don't often see discussed - like how to make progress on the circuit, and how to handle social media. I'm currently diving into chapters randomly, and always emerging with something new and useful. Excellent book!
